Long-known for its line of clean, traditional, hand-built 1911 pistols, Ed Brown is stepping into the 21st century with a number of high-end offerings, the latest of which is the Ed Brown FX1 1911.

“When you consider that the Kobra Carry was introduced almost 20 years ago now, you can see that we are trend setters in custom handguns. It is just in the company's DNA," said John May, Ed Brown sales and marketing director. "This pistol is a game-changer and will be the new standard by which others will be judged and, once again, a reminder that we are a force to be reckoned with."

The Ed Brown FX1 1911 is built on a machined stainless-steel frame paired up with a Commander-style stainless-steel slide. The frame incorporates an integrated Picatinny rail for use when mounting lights and lasers and also incorporates the company's one-piece magwell for easy reloading. The slide is complete with cuts and ports that reduce overall weight and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the gun. At the rear of the slide are square-cut serrations, and the rear right-side serration cut is machined in the shape of the American flag.

The pistol comes equipped with a tactical-rack, ledge-style U-notch rear sight paired up with a red fiber-optic front sight. For those looking to enhance the sighting capability of their guns even further, the slide can be cut to accept a Trijicon RMR red-dot reflex optic, which is then paired with suppressor-height night sights for co-witnessing.

Other elements of the gun include a recessed slide stop, flush-fit barrel and a recessed crown. For enhanced grip, the front strap and mainspring housing on the Ed Brown FX1 1911 feature the company's unique FX1 Snakeskin machined texturing. The gun comes equipped with VZ Grips Alien grip panels. Like all Ed Brown guns, the FX1 can be tailor-made to the user's preferences with more than 100 different customization options available.

The Ed Brown FX1 1911 is available in an "Industrial" stainless-steel finish with black grip panels or in the company's Dirty Olive Gen4 finish paired up with OD green grip panels. Caliber options are available in 9mm, .45 ACP and .38 Super. The suggested retail price on the gun starts at $3,875.\
